What do the ingredients do?

Shea butter: Contains linoleic, palmitic, stearic, and oleic fatty acids - ingredients that balance oils on your skin. It also has vitamins A, E, and F, which promote circulation and healthy skin cell growth. Its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids make it a great product for smoothing, soothing, and conditioning your skin and locking in moisture. Safe for all skin types, it is moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and may help prevent acne, stretch marks, scarring, fine lines and wrinkles as well as help soothe conditions like eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. Using shea butter on your skin does give you some added sun protection – it contains an estimated SPF of 3 to 4.

Sunflower seed oil (H.annuus): Sunflower oil is hugely soothing and helps skin irritation — not just dry skin, but chronic acne and eczema as well. This oil has a comedogenic rating of 0, which means it doesn’t clog pores and its SPF factor is supposed to be over 20. It exhibits antioxidant and photoprotective activities that are associated with the presence of tocopherols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids.  It is characterized by its high content in amino acids, tocopherols (namely α-tocopherol), flavonoids, phenolic acids and fatty acids. Several medicinal applications, such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities, and wound-healing properties are attributed to this oil. Naturally occurring α-tocopherol, or vitamin E, is a fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin that confers protection against free radical damage.

Cocoa butter: Cocoa butter not only smells delicious but feels luxurious when you rub it on your body. One common use of cocoa butter is to smooth scars, wrinkles, and other marks on the skin. It is high in fatty acids, which is why it’s often used for its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin and improve elasticity. It forms a protective barrier over skin to hold in moisture. Cocoa butter is rich in natural plant compounds called phytochemicals. These substances may improve blood flow to the skin and slow skin aging by protecting against damage from the sun’s harmful UV rays. It may also protect the skin from damage that can lead to premature aging. Cocoa butter is said to heal rashes from conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

Arrowroot powder: This natural powder is comprised of starches extracted from the arrowroot plant - Maranta arundinacea. Arrowroot powder is similar to cornstarch. It detoxifies, helps to moisturize skin, heals skin and calms skin irritations. It also helps with acne, oily and sensitive skin and rashes. Contains minerals, vitamins, zinc, iron, potassium, and Vitamin B6.

Coconut oil: This is a moisturizing power. About 65% of coconut oil’s composition is medium-chain fatty acids like lauric acid and linoleic acid, which is why coconut oil is so beneficial to your skin. It soothes dry skin, helps treat mild wounds, hydrates skin and it can kill harmful microorganisms (effectively kill bacteria and fungi). It also has anti-inflammatory properties - which help reduce inflammation for many different types of skin disorders, including psoriasis, contact dermatitis, eczema and acne. Coconut oil also helps protect your skin from the sun - it has an estimated SFP factor of 7.

Vitamin E: It moisturizes the skin as well as being anti-inflammatory and a powerful antioxidant that may be effective at reducing UV damage in skin and help nourish and protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals.

Rose essential oil (R. damascene): With antioxidants like vitamins A and C, rose oil can help promote skin cell turnover, which often slows down with age. In turn, this creates younger-looking skin with fewer lines. Rose may help to soften skin texture, balance oil levels, and reduce signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.
